Choosing a music teacher is a complex decision based on cost, location, openings, and the teacher's education, experience, and personality. Below are descriptions of Mrs. Lamb's education, experience, professional activities, and personal life.
Miriam Lamb received her Bachelor’s of Science in Music Education from MissouriStateUniversity, graduating summa cum laude. She double majored in piano and voice, studying piano with Dr. Peter Collins and voice with Dr. Rose Mary Owens. Her studies included training in vocal pedagogy and numerous elementary music methods. She received Orff-Schulwerk Level 1 Certification and has completed nine graduate hours in music. Mrs. Lamb completed Every Child Can, the introductory workshop for Suzuki training.
Experience
Mrs. Lamb has taught music for 14 years. She taught elementary, junior high, and high school music for two years. She “retired” to be a stay-at-home mother and open a music studio. Mrs. Lamb has taught private piano and voice lessons to children and adults. She has taught beginning to advanced level students. She has conducted group piano and voice classes, and music theory classes. Prior to college graduation, Mrs. Lamb worked in a group home for adolescents and young adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Because of this unique experience, Mrs. Lamb has taught several students with disabilities.
Professional Activities
Mrs. Lamb has held membership in many professional music organizations, including American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, Music Teachers National Association, National Federation of Music Clubs, and the American College of Musicians. She is currently a member of the Brazos Valley Music Teachers Association. Through this organization, she has adjudicated for the Hymn Festival and conducted a piano ensemble in the Grand Concert. She currently is serving as chairperson of the Theory Test Committee. For most of the past 18 years, Mrs. Lamb has held church music positions, including choir director and organist. Mrs. Lamb has also accompanied for a variety of instrumental and vocal solos and ensembles, as well as choral groups.
Personal and Family Life
Mrs. Lamb has an active family life. She has four daughters who keep her busy but also bring her great joy. She enjoys sewing, baking, and scrapbooking. For the past ten years, she has made matching Easter dresses for her daughters.
